Reverend Carter Grimmett, Retired Elder, United Methodist Church

Pastor Carter is a native Detroiter who has spent most of his life residing in the State of Michigan. Growing up in a warm family environment, he was the second of five siblings.  He received his bachelor’s degree from the historic Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, where he majored in social work. He also conducted graduate level work at Wayne State University in Detroit. He completed his Master of Divinity degree from Methodist Theological School in Ohio. He was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 2007.

Along with his 18 years of ministry in the United Methodist Church, Pastor Carter previously enjoyed serving as a professional firefighter for the cities of Detroit and Ann Arbor.  He is also a proud Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army Intelligence Corp.

Pastor Carter is happily married to his childhood sweetheart, Toni. They have seven children, 30 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one very special mother-in-law. They are excited to call St. Philip’s United Methodist Church their home.
